He and Pop go to New York where they run into Penny, a dancing instructor. She and Lucky form a successful dance partnership, but romance is blighted (till the end of the film at least!) by his old attachment to Margaret and hers for Ricardo, the band leader who won’t play for them to dance together.

My Fair Lady (1964) Starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison

Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7

Gloriously witty adaptation of the Broadway musical about Professor Henry Higgins, who takes a bet from Colonel Pickering that he can transform unrefined, dirty Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady, and fool everyone into thinking she really is one, too! He does, and thus young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford-Hill falls madly in love with her. But when Higgins takes all the credit and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy, and suddenly Higgins realizes he’s grown accustomed to her face and can’t really live without it.

West Side Story (1961) Starring Natalie Wood

May 17 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7

Westside story is the award winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliette. The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs- the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff’s best friend (and former Jet) Tony and Bernardo’s younger sister Maria meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away. Then the Skarks and Jets plan a rumble under the highway – whoever wins gains control of the streets. Maria sends Tony to stop it, hoping it can end the violence. It goes terribly wrong, and before the lovers know what’s happened, tragedy strikes and doesn’t stop until the climactic and heartbreaking ending.

May 24 at 7 p.m.

In 1927, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a famous on-screen romantic pair. Lina, however, mistakes the on-screen romance for real love. Don has worked hard to get where he is today, with his former partner Cosmo. When Don and Lina’s latest film is transformed into a musical, Don has the perfect voice for the songs. But Lina – well, even with the best efforts of a diction coach, they still decide to dub over her voice. Kathy Selden is brought in, an aspiring actress, and while she is working on the movie, Don falls in love with her. Will Kathy continue to “aspire”, or will she get the break she deserves ?
THIS MOVIE ALWAYS MAKES ME WANT TO GO OUT AND DANCE IN THE RAIN!!!!!
Live at The Liberty!

VirLinda Stanton in Concert
Saturday, May 5 at 6:00p.m.

Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door
Gospel Recording Artist and Actress, VirLinda Stanton, will be performing in concert at Liberty Hall on Saturday, May 5 at 6pm. This TYLER NATIVE landed one of her ultimate singing and acting goals with the Broadway Musical “The Color Purple” National Tour as: Church Lady-Darlene & Shug Avery understudy. Additionally VirLinda performed at THE WHITE HOUSE 2011 Holiday Christmas Celebration.

VirLinda grew up in a rural area of Tyler, TX (Shady Grove Community). Virlinda feels strongly that everyone has a song, but hers has been just a little different. How about a song that has been sung from the country sticks of a small town in Tyler Texas, all the way to Johannesburg South Africa. Unsigned, but not unheard this song bird has blessed the microphone and crowds with the best of the best.
VirLinda began singing at the age of 9 in church; God has taken her on her Life Journey. Of course behind every good voice, there is that Gospel Soul that is undeniable. From Gospel, Broadway, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Disco, Pop, and of course R&B, she’s done it all. From the stage of Walt Disney’s Lion King, NFL & NBA Cheerleader, to courtside at the NBA Lakers & NFL games singing the “National Anthem”, her voice has been heard. Gracing the stage to plays & Lead Vocalist w/All Funk Radio Show Band performing at House of Blues, Weddings, Eldorado Casino, Riverwind Casino, Creek Nation Casinos just mention a few.
Please join us for an inspirational evening of songs from her new to be released CD.

Take 2 Classic Rock Band

Comedian Monique Marvez featuring Card 53 Not Skinny, Not Blonde!
(this show is recommended for 18 and up)

Saturday, May 19 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each online and $20 at the door – general admission

Welcome back to Tyler, comedian Monique Marvez and her one woman show, “Not Skinny, Not Blonde”. Find out how Monique stopped wringing her hands over what she wasn’t and started putting them together (clapping!) over what she is. A former multiple marry-er, who struggled (OK, who are we kidding…struggles) with relationships, weight and money issues, Monique takes an unflinching moral inventory of her weakness’ on stage and then assesses “in the OVERCOMING we BECOME”. (Note: she does NOT struggle with depression. When it shows up, she gives right in, “Wait here Depression, I’ll put on sweatpants and stop washing my hair immediately!”)

This show is equal parts AHA! and HA! HA! This “Pendeja” in recovery (that is a bad word in Spanish that loosely means….well look it up!) and cougar on the rise, realizes you only have ONE choice in life: how prepared you are going got be when you get your turn.
Recent events in her own faithful, fit-filled life have confirmed that everyone gets a turn! However, God, the Universe or FATE decides when it is. “I would have loved it twenty years ago!” says the lovely 40 plus-er, but then my boyfriend would have been in elementary school!
Come and laugh with Monique!!

ANDCard 53 Comedy is a short form improv comedy troupe located in Tyler, TX. The group started in 2009 when co-founders Aaron Smith and Jamey Whitley recognized a need for theatre at The University of Texas at Tyler. They started a theatre organization and decided to perform an improv show. They soon added Chris Pelton and the three man show took off. The troupe’s chemistry and strong following led to three shows at UT Tyler as well as being asked to act as the emcee at the Greek Life Lip Sync contest, since then they have added members Brad Johnson and R.J. Norman. They have performed shows for Tyler Independent School District, Tyler Junior College, and at Julian’s Asian Café in Tyler.

A typical Card 53 show consists of eight 3-5 minute sketches or “games” where the audience is asked to give a suggestion such as a location, movie genre, or emotion. The actors then make everything up on stage going off their instincts using props and costumes as needed.
Card 53 Comedy has brought this art form, quite successfully, to the newly renovated Liberty Hall! Come play with them!

On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingenue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong.

Ann Armstrong & Steve Hughes

Loretta Callens Opens
at

•Saturday, May 12th, 2012 @ 7:00pm
13+ or with adult, please… Ann Armstrong & Steve Hughes Ann Armstrong’s talents, both as a songwriter and blues performer, are deep and diverse.
Ann Armstrong is right up there with the great musical exports of Texas. She plays guitar – sometimes sweetly as an early bluebonnet, sometimes prickly as an Octillo cactus. She sings like a steam-powered nightingale and writes songs from a depth of experience. Ann’s constant companion and musical partner, Steve Hughes, spices up the proceedings with fine harmonica and flute work.
Ann and Steve have one thing that sets them apart from much of the new talent emerging from the Lone Star State: they have been entertaining audiences with Ann’s blend of Texas blues, folk and rock, for over 20 years. That adds up to listening experience that can’t be matched!

Loretta Callens

Loretta Callens’ music embodies a timeless, American folk genre that appeals to anyone who loves music. She began her musical journey at 6 years old, and discovered the guitar ten years later, never to let it go.
Loretta credits her parents with fostering the love of song so evident in her performances. Her first CD, “Strayz,” brought praise from reviewer Tom Geddie of Buddy Magazine: “Callens can sing”! In May, 2011 Loretta released her CD, “Life Is Good,” in concert with a wine of the same name produced by Texas Road Winery. Aside from songwriting and performing, Loretta has produced sixteen bluegrass festivals, a folk festival, two fund raisers and the Texas Independent Music Expo 2009 and 2010.
